August 10, 2003Gregory Hines 1946-2003I'm sorry to write that actor/dancer Gregory Hines died of cancer, yesterday, at the age of 57. I remember him most from the movie White Nights where he starred along with Mikhail Baryshnikov. Certainly not a great movie, but it introduced me to some music I've enjoyed since -- something most would have never noticed. It was the background music during the scene on the stage of the theatre company. It was some heartfelt music and it took me some time to track down who the artist was. The artist ended up being Vladimir Vysotsky, Russia's greatest bard.
