MT 3, Coming or Going?

so sixapart has announced and released a developers edition of MT 3.0. on this surface this all sounds greate; however, it seems that there are going to be some changes to the free versions of MT even though mena says:

With the new licenses going in effect today we will continue our tradition of offering a fully functional free version, there will also be a large variety of paid licenses that come with the structured support that we never felt that we could give our donors enough of.
it looks like derek has dug into it a bit more and it's not quite the same.

for me it really doesn't make a difference, when sites are completely different i tend to do seperate MT installs so they can operate independently with individually configured plug-ins, but i do see his point. it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. perhaps this will create an opening for a quality opensource blogging platform. i only wish i had the time and energy to start such a venture.

update: metafilter has lots of comments and some links to alternatives. the MT folks are catching quite a bit of flack already.
