4-4-3-2

sadly, i remember mulligan's stew from elementary school. the whole "4-4-3-2, that's the formula for me and you" schtick. aside from it being about the nutrition recommendations at the time, i distinctly remember eating two recipes that came from the comic book that accompanied the tv show. one was no-bake pizza which is pretty much what are in those snackables lunches now while the other was no-bake cookies. i remember those being particularly yummy.

much to my surprise, my daughter brought home some cookies they made at school. they looked familiar. they tasted familiar. while i'm not 100% certain, i think these are those very no-bake cookies!

ingredients:

  • 1/4 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cups of butter
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 square unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups oatmeal
you will also need a saucepan and waxed paper.

directions:
  1. place milk, sugar, butter, salt, and chocolate in a saucepan and heat
  2. stir ingredients until mixture boils for 1 minute
  3. remove mixture from heat
  4. add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  5. add peanut butter and stir
  6. add oatmeal and stir/mix
  7. spoon mixture onto waxed paper
  8. chill
now if i could only find the recipe for these treats my german grandmother used to make with i believe dark chocolate and this thin paper like stuff on the top and bottom. it, too, was chilled and was fantastic.
