Who Do I Look Like?

so i peeked in at this site called my heritage which has a demo for face recognition. you can upload a picture and it will tell you what celebrities you most resemble... or i suppose have some similar features of. hey! this is better than a meme isn't it? so i gave it a whirl.

not only does it tell you who and show you the picture of them, but it provides a percentage of the feature match.

  • john lennon 54%
heh, i don't see the resemblence, but it could have matched much worse.
  • julie christie 49%
wtf? i've been told i write like a girl, now look like one. geez! must be the longer hair. at least she isn't ugly, though i have no idea who she is... must google that sometime.
  • johnny depp 47%
now your talkin'... too bad i don't really look like him.
  • david beckham 45%
damn, this thing is really trying to stroke my ego isn't it?
  • hugh grant 43%
i'm not sure if i should be insulted by this one or not. women seem to find him attractive, so i probably shouldn't complain. is today opposite day or something?
  • ralph nader 40%
i guess the hairline kicked in for that one

give it a whirl, it was quite amusing. oh, and if there are multiple people in the picture, it does the recognition for both people; however, the more non-forward facing you are the less likely it is to see a face.

Must Share

a much too funny little video over at forgetfoo. in europe, they don't bother hiding that sex sells. i would consider the video to be safe for work, so go ahead and look.

on a different note, it seems a meme is going around ... i saw it last at zawodny's and despite not being tagged, i'm gonna do it anyway.

the meme going around is where you provide lists of four things about yourself.

  • Four jobs I've had in my life:
    1. working in a stockroom
    2. sporting goods sales
    3. computer security consultant
    4. geek
  • Four movies I can watch over and over: (i'll give a mix...)
    1. slapshot
    2. gladiator
    3. dead poet's society
    4. while you were sleeping
  • Four TV shows I love to watch:
    1. boston legal
    2. house
    3. monk (less so now that sharonna is gone)
    4. myth busters
  • Four places I've been on vacation: (what is vacation?)
    1. southern california
    2. whistler, british columbia, canada
    3. nags head, north carolina
    4. various parts of germany
  • Four of my favorite dishes:
    1. matzah ball soup (traditional or "tortilla soup style")
    2. cannelloni
    3. filet mignon (medium to medium rare) with garlic mash and sauteed mushrooms
    4. cheese enchildas
  • Four websites I visit daily:
    1. google.com (search) & yahoo.com (news)
    2. bloglines.com (rss feeds)
    3. barterbee. com (cd/dvd trading)
    4. iTunes (indirectly via the iTunes program)
  • Four places I would rather be right now:
    1. at a hockey rink (playing)
    2. vancouver, bc (i enjoyed the week spent in the city)
    3. washington d.c. -- the smithsonian
    4. almost anywhere, just not working. :-)
  • Four bloggers I am tagging:
i wasn't tagged, so i'm not actually going to tag anyone, but let's just say if you are reading this... tag, you're it.

All is quiet on the western front

wow, it has been over a week since i have posted anything. i know there have been several times i have thought... i should blog that, but eventually end up forgotting or deciding not to as it reveals things in my personal life that may cause me more trouble than it is worth for posting it here. seriously, is googlebot really going to care what i write? i've been thinking about this whole blog thing, and somewhere down the road i'm either simply going to stop or i'll end up changing things... perhaps location of the blog, scrapping old entries and starting fresh, i dunno. i'm still thinking about it all.

in the mean time, a few amusements...

  • math is hard. heh. this picture is one of the funniest i've seen in a while that didn't involved people.
  • quit complaining about your job.... things could be worse.
  • there was an article about the worlds 12 best new buildings, and one of them is rather... um... interesting. the Agbar Tower, Barcelona. the color is quite pleasing to the eye, but me thinks the architect was going for a different ummmmm... vibe.
  • some time back, foo posted something i think i've seen before. regardless it still makes me chuckle... new company policies. ah, the unwritten rules, written.
  • over at mindhacks, men, women, and ghosts was mildly interesting. the photo included in the article is haunting. i don't know why. in particular, i liked the one comment from a reader that said Or perhaps it would help if we just stopped referring to self-confident, aggressive women as "bitches". man, talk about generalizing! *sigh*
  • what is it with the whole chuck norris thing these days? fairly amusing and i'm glad to see he thinks it is amusing too.
ahhhh, that's all for now.

Whatchu talkin 'bout AC

while watching the television the other day, up popped gary coleman and he was referred to as the greatest child actor kid star. in fact, it seems vh1 has done a show ranking them. my first thought hearing this was wtf!?!

i have nothing against gary coleman. i thought he did a great job playing arnold on different strokes... but greatest star? what else has he done? looking at his imdb entry, i don't recognize a single other thing in his list. maybe with some descriptions i might go... oh, yeah... i kinda remember that, but is that really the mark of greatness? i do remember different strokes, and he gets full props for that.

seriously though. even if you only take into account their work as a kid, haven't the olsen twins done more successful tv/movie projects? what about ron howard -- he was opie on the andy griffith show, ritchie cunningham on happy days, and was in american graffiti and probably its sequel. i also remember him from the movie night shift (with henry winker and these newer actors named michael keaton and shelly long); however, that wasn't main stream and he was beyond being a kid at that point.

again, nothing against gary. i'll give him the nod in one area... he (or the script writers really) are quoted more with the "whatchu talk'n 'bout willis" than the others. that certainly makes him iconic, but in my ever so humble opinion, it doesn't make him the greatest.

Psychology of MMORPG, Cont...

i blogged briefly about this back in august and it looks like this project has grown and continues to provide some rather interesting (or should i say fascinating) results. if you play MMORPGs or know someone that does, his site is a good read -- project daedalus. as usual, i seem to be a bit of an outlier.

i wonder what his research has about people posting pictures of their MMORPG life. i have a flickr set for mine. and i'm not the only one it seems.
