March 11, 2004Hit Somebodythe nhl season is winding down... tonight i'll be at the sharks v. islanders game. san jose is looking to break their season high 3-game losing streak. the isles have yashin back and will be looking to end their 5-game drought. should be a good match-up. go sharks! regarding the todd bertuzzi incident -- i think the nhl has handed out a just punishment. the vancouver organization was fined $250,000 and buertuzzi has been suspended for the remainder of the 2003-04 season including the stanley cup playoffs. his eligibility for the next season will be determined prior to training camp. ouch! this was no slap on the wrist for a change. it was refreshing to see the nhl take such a firm stance. we can debate whether fighting is part of hockey or not, but clearly what bertuzzi did was not part of the game by any standard. i have no problem if two willing combatants square off and drop the gloves; however, sneaking up from behind and sucker punching a guy is cowardly. this wasn't a little shot to the head/back to get moore to turn around, it was an all out attack, plain and simple. the word cowardly comes to mind.
