It Seems a little pointless to brag, but...
so my little girl has officially graduated from high school. while not completely surprised, i'm proud to say she won two awards -- the school's academic award for academic excellence as well as an award that is only given some years -- years where they believe they have a worthy candidate. the award is for above and beyond participation at the school. my daughter did their website, constantly helped the administration with technology issues -- you'd think they'd know powerpoint by now -- and helped them with a list minute district school board presentation. and then there was yearbook, the school newsletter, and g*d knows what else.
the speech was well done and i'm as pleased as ever that she worked in my suggested change to the ending. when i pointed it out that i noticed she made a change, i got her patent response -- "great minds think alike" and a smile. the conclusion of her speech got the laugh she told me it would. it was a bit of an inside/family joke without any context, but she was right... they still found it funny.
the surprise of the evening was that in addition to her school awards, she also got a scholarship from a local organization -- it won't pay for stanford (not that she is going there), but it will pay for some schooling and frankly it really is the thought that matters. ironically, she didn't even apply for the scholarship, making the honor that much more delightful.
